Make it Monday: Home Improvements - Office Ergonomics (Part II)

Last week, we kicked off the "Home Improvements" series with a post about houseplants that clean the air in your home.  Today we're going to talk about the proper way to sit at your desk while you work to avoid injury.  Sitting at a desk for hours on end can certainly lead to back pain!  Below are a few ways that you can adjust your chair and other items as your desk to work more comfortably:

CHAIR

Adjust your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor.  Ensure that your chair has lumbar support or you can also put a cushion behind your lower back.

PLACEMENT OF COMPUTER

Your computer should be roughly an arms length away from you and directly in front of you.  In regards of how high your computer should sit, place it just below eye level.

MOUSE

Place your mouse close to your keyboard and that your wrist is supported.  You may want to consider purchasing a wrist rest or a mouse pad that incorporates a rest if you are not currently using one.

POSTURE

Place your body in the middle of your computer monitor and keyboard.  Make sure you sit up straight; your thighs should be horizontal with your knees aligned with your hips.  Ensure that your forearms are level or tilted up slightly.
