Make it Monday: Tierra Littlefield - Studnet Work

Happy Monday to everyone! I'd like to kick off this week and discuss a fun and creative lighting technique called light painting!  What is light painting you ask? "Light painting, or light drawing, is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source while taking a long exposure photograph, either to illuminate a subject or to shine a point of light directly at the camera. Light painting can also describe works where the camera itself is moved during exposure" (Wikipedia).

In this "PHOA223: Advanced Lighting", students are introduced to light painting in the fifth week. The image above was shot by one of my students, Tierra Littlefield! She adjusted her camera to capture an 8 second exposure and while the shutter was open, aimed her tungsten flashlight at her subjects.  As you can see, Tierra moved the flashlight around a bit to "paint" all of the objects with the light!
