Website Wednesday: Squijoo.com

A big part of running your own freelance photography business is - oddly enough - graphic design.  For example, when you create your logo, website, business card, promotional materials, and even your resume, you want these items to look fantastic so you can "catch" a potential client's eye.  Graphic design and photography do have a few things in common: composition, color, use of line, and shape.  Although, just because you are a photographer may not mean that you're a graphic designer... and that's okay!  I'd like to introduce you to a fantastic website called "Squijoo.com".  This website specializes in creating templates for just about anything!

Let's say that you're looking for a template for your business card, Squijoo.com has a variety to choose from.  Once you pick a design you like, you can download the file, open it in Photoshop (or other Adobe program) and adjust it to suit your brand!  They also have some fantastic logos that may interest you for your business.  Need a new Facebook Cover Photo? Squijoo.com has a few templates for your social media needs as well!  Naturally, all good things do cost a bit of money.  If you're on a tight budget, join for ten dollars a month and cancel your subscription after you've downloaded what you need; no strings attached!

I'll walk you through the steps to download and design a new logo.  First and foremost, you want to click on "Browse" at the top of Squijoo.com's Home Page and scroll down to "Marketing Tools".  Once you open up the "Marketing Tools" link, you'll see where it says "Logo Templates". The big thing to remember about After you select a logo that you like, click on it and select "Download Now".  From there you'll be prompted to login. Once you login, the download will begin and you'll receive a file to open up in Adobe.

Keep in mind: you want to adjust the logo to suit your brand. Consider the colors that you use for your brand and adjust the design accordingly.  One thing you want to avoid is using a logo (or any template) that looks like it came right off of Squijoo.com.
