Website Wednesday: DP Review

I was recently in the market for a new full frame DSLR camera.  I started my search looking at B&H.com and read a slew of customer reviews.  It is important to note that although customer reviews are helpful, they are not written by experts.  One of the hardest parts about buying a new camera or any piece of photography equipment for that matter is knowing simply if it's good or not.  Of course, what I might classify as "good" and what someone else might classify as "good" can be many different things.  Luckily, there's a website that helps sort out a lot of questions about photo related equipment: DP Review.com. Let's look at the basics of what this website has to offer:

In the section titled "Reviews", there are a few quick links to camera, lens and printer reviews.  Detailed information related cameras, lenses, printers, phones and software can be found further to the right.  You can even compare two lenses side by side!  In the section titled "Phones", you can learn about many different photography related apps that are available to iPhones, Androids, Blackberrys and more.  In the section titled "Sample Images", you can compare and contrast sample images taken by different cameras using different lenses.  This is a great tool if you're curious about the quality of the image produced by the camera.  If you're new to photography, the "DPReview Beginner's Guide" is a very helpful tool to check out.  In this section, video tutorials are uploaded on a regular basis that can help you learn more about the basics!

Let's take a closer look at a review that was written about the Nikon D800:

Typically, the reviews found on DPReview.com are multiple pages long although they are very informative.  There are a few different ways that you can navigate through the material as marked in the image above.  Next time you're in the market for buying a new piece of equipment, be sure to check it out on DPReview.com!
