Welcome to Pho·tog Friday!
As noted in Part III of this special "Pho·tog Friday" series on Henri Cartier-Bresson, he spent a significant amount of time traveling throughout Europe during the late 1950s while working for the Magnum Photo Agency. A similar "travel pattern" emerged during the next decade.
In 1960, Cartier-Bresson continued to shoot still images on the sets of movies as he had in the late 1940s. He traveled to Nevada to photograph the making of The Misfits with Magnum co-worker, Inge Morath:

The same year, Carteir-Bresson traveled to one of my favorite cities, Naples, Italy:

The following year, Cartier-Bresson traveled to Greece and took one of his most famous photographs seen directly below. What I find interesting about this picture is the use of line and shape. The steps and the shadows lead the viewers eye directly to the young girl:

In 1962, Cartier-Bresson traveled to Ireland:

Cartier-Bresson traveled to Sardinia the same year although it was not the Magnum Photo Agency who sent him. The fashion magazine, Vogue, sent him to this island for about twenty days:

His work for Magnum continued for a few more years from 1963 through 1966. During this time, he traveled to Cuba, Turkey, Japan and back to India:

|
Cartier-Bresson, Henri, Women Spreading out Saris in the Sun, Ahmedabad, India, 1966. |
In 1966, Cartier-Bresson withdrew as one of the principle photographers at Magnum so he could concentrate on his portraiture and landscape work. That being said, stepping down at Magnum did not slow his travels down and in 1967, he went to Jerusalem and England:

In 1967, Cartier-Bresson divorced his wife of 30 years, Ratna Eile. Starting in 1968, Cartier-Bresson started to refocus again on the medium that sparked his interest in art: painting... although always keeping a camera close at hand:

Stay tuned to see how the 1970s treated Cartier-Bresson!
