Ever wonder what makes a good picture... actually good?! There are many factors that play into that idea. A photographer should consider his/her subject matter, the lighting, the exposure, what the image might be used for and of course, the composition.
From time to time, everyone has heard advice on composition. I have no doubt that some of that advice has been bad... but hopefully, most of that advice has been good. Have you ever had a professor talk to you about the Rule of Thirds? Have you ever thought to yourself when you heard this term, "Rule of Thirds"... there are rules in photography?!?
Despite the popular notion that there are no rules in photography, the truth is that there are a few rules... and once one has mastered these rules, then and only then are these rules meant to be broken. ;o)
Let's check out this video by Canon Australia that discusses the Rule of Thirds:
And... we might include a fantastic article published within Digital Camera World that discusses when and why to break the Rule of Thirds. To read the article titled "Rule of Thirds: How to Use It & How to Break It", click here.
What are some other "rules" that a professor has mentioned in the classroom to you?
