Pho·tog Friday: Elena Kalis - New Work

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post introducing our First Years Focus and Fire audience to the amazing underwater photographer, Elena Kalis.  Based out of the Bahamas and typically photographing her daughter as her subject, Kalis has come out with some new work! "Together, they create dream-like, peaceful portraits that capture Sacha’s world beneath the waves and her connection to all the creatures that make the waters of the Bahamas their home." (Cade, PetaPixel)

"For Elena, the underwater realm is alive in a way that the land above just can’t match. “The underwater world is dreamlike and lucid and just a different world overall,” she told RagMag in an interview.  Kalis notes, “I feel a fusion of respect, awe, sensuality, and mystery when shooting underwater and in the ocean in particular." (Cade, PetaPixel)  The cave that is featured in this new body of work is where two James Bond flicks were shot; if you're interested in diving or snorkeling, Kalis claims it's a "must see"!

It's very fitting that Kalis and her daughter, Sacha Kalis, work together as a team: photographer and model.  Not only do their images portray a dreamlike scenario, but their ability to work together as mother and daughter mimic the same sensation.  To see more images of Kalis' new body of work taken at Thunderball Grotto, click "here".
