Leibovitz Discussing Photo Shoot with Queen Elizabeth |
I wanted to introduce you to another one of my favorite contemporary photographers, Annie Leibovitz. Leibovitz uses mostly soft
light for the majority of her portraits. Leibovitz was born in 1949 and
is known as an American portrait photographer. She is well known for
the photographs she has taken of many celebrities and rock stars. She
began her career as a staff photographer for Rolling Stone magazine. She has also worked for Vanity Fair magazine. She has published multiple books and is truly an inspiration to all photographers – in my humble opinion.
During week three of PH136, the modules expand on the use of artificial lighting and introduces you to a
variety of tools that you will use both in and outside of your studio.
Leibovitz is a great example of when someone uses a variety of tools to
get the lighting scheme she seeks. Please click here to
read an article about Leibovitz and how she conducts her work.
I think it
will be very beneficial for all of you to become familiar not only with
Leibovtiz's photographs but to also learn about her biography as well
as why her work is so important to portrait photographers.
In March of 2007, Leibovitz had an opportunity to photograph Queen Elizabeth. Click here to read an article about this particular photo shoot. Here are a few images from Leibovitz's shoot with the Queen:
