Welcome to Website Wednesday!
A key aspect in being a successful freelance photographer is having a professional looking website. These days, having a great looking site certainly does not mean that you have to be a web designer per say although having a good taste for design does play a part. There are numerous companies that boast the ability to help you build your photography website and all you have to do is simply pick a template. However, the task is not as easy as it sounds. Which company should you choose? Which template would go well with your work? How much will it cost? The list of questions could go on and on. So, let's take a look at one of the leading companies that not only has great templates to choose from but is also user friendly. Oh, and... it's free! Introducing Wix.com:
If you click on the word "Templates" at the top of the Wix.com page, you'll be brought to a page where you can choose a design layout for your site. These template choices have been broken into many different categories such as "New", "Most Popular", "Blank Templates", "One Pager", and of course, "Photography". You'll also notice that there are even categories that relate to other types of businesses aside from the world of photo, such as "Restaurant & Hospitality". On the off chance that you have another business - non-photo related - Wix.com has got you covered!
If you click on the "Features" tab at the top of the Wix.com website, you'll see a list of what else Wix.com has to offer. Wix.com has hundreds of templates to choose from, your website can be built by dragging and dropping your files into place and there is a twenty-four hour support center! Interested in connecting your clients to your social media sites or setting up an online store for your work? Wix.com has those options as well.
Naturally, there is a "catch" with choosing a free template. The URL link for your website will look something like: "nameofyourbusiness.wix.com". Wix.com also displays a very small advertisement at the bottom of the free templates. However, if you choose to sign up for a "Premium" Account, you can personalize your domain name and there are not advertisements. You will also have the option to increase your storage space and bandwidth with a Premium Account. Either way, choosing a Free or Premium Account from Wix.com will get you started if you're trying to develop a strong professional photography website!
