Come check out a live lecture given to our school by Elizabeth Claffey's! The live event was recorded and uploaded to YouTube. In Claffey's lecture, she spoke about her experience applying for and receiving a Fulbright Scholarship, which is one of the most prestigious scholarships a photographer could hope for! Claffey explained how the Fulbright allowed her to travel to and live in Albania for one year.

During her time in this post-communist and post-conflict country, Claffey photographed and documented the "role of women" in the Albanian society. Throughout the lecture, she spoke about the events she covered, such as a Breast Cancer Walk organized by the local YWCA in Tirana as well as a parade celebrating Albania's 100 years of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Claffey shared information about the non-profit organization she photographed called "In the Family, For the Family". Claffey also explained her "hands on approach" to creating change and spoke about the Youth Art Club she started for students ages fifteen to twenty-five. Claffey not only shared her captivating photographs but she also explained how she believes in the power of a narrative - particularly a photo essay - and how a narrative can bring about real change and inevitably, make a difference.
