Double Pop Quiz!
In my last Pho·tog Friday post, I asked why Nicéphore Niépce's photograph titled View from the Window at Le Gras, from 1826 (or 1827) was so important. The answer: it is the oldest surviving photograph. Niépce was from France and was a pioneer in the field of photography - with the whole - ya know - creating the first photograph "thing". He took this photograph from his estate, Le Gras, looking at the window using a camera obscura. With the positioning of the sunlight in the image, it's expected that the exposure time for this shot was eight hours! So - here's the second question about Niépce and his work as a photographer:
What process was used to create Niépce's image below? When was it created? Why is it not considered a "photograph"?
