Make it Monday: Freelance Gigs via Instagram

Last Friday, I posed a question about how Lauren Randolph - also know as Lauren Lemon - got her start with freelance commercial photography.  The answer: Instagram!  She started out merely taking photographs on her iPhone, as many photographers due these days. So much for the good ole Pentax K1000 as a "starting camera"... Regardless, Lemon's composition and use of lighting was strong, which caught the eye of many companies.  Below is an image that she shot for Nordstrom:

In regards to her taking successful images with her iPhone, "The industry (photography) isn't quite sure yet what to call them; iPhotographers, iPhoneographers, social photographers, mobile photographers, or more directly, influences.  As brands try to capitalize on the rise and reach of social media networks such as Instagram - now more than 200 million international users strong - they're turning to the platform's native talent like Lauren Randolph for their eye, their experience, and not least, their followers" (PDNOnline). More can be read on this topic within Kris Wilton's article titled, When Instagram Success Leads to Advertising Assignments: Lauren Lemon; click "here" for details.
