Make it Monday: Composite Images

In the commercial photography world, a client may ask you to shoot and create an image that seems virtually impossible.  For example, taking photographs of a polar bear on a warm beach... unless you're on the television set of Lost, this creative endeavor might pose a serious challenge.  The solution: combining multiple images together, which is known as creating a "composite image".  


Ben Lucas from Tuts+ has created a video tutorial that explains how he combined a few different photos that demonstrate a "helicopter rescue".  The image above, which was clearly taken in a studio, is the original photograph.  Lucas describes how he adds on multiple photos and adjusts the lighting and shadows to make the final product seem real in the tutorial below:
