Make it Monday: Avoid Ambient Light in Studio

Another fantastic video tutorial sponsored by Creative Live, taught by instructor Lindsay Adler, goes over how to avoid ambient light from affecting your images when shooting in the studio.  Adler, a fashion portrait photographer based out of New York, is not only a fantastic photographer but she is also the author behind A Linked Photographs' Guide to Online Marketing and Social Media.  Many of the tutorials and courses that she teaches on Creative Live have to do with preserving the subject's skin tone; this video is no different.  

First and foremost, it's important to note that the term "ambient" light refers to any light that is within the studio not coming from your strobes such as, natural light coming through a window, tungsten lights and fluorescent lights.  Adler's tutorial begins with a few basic tips to deal with ambient light: shoot at or near sync speed, turn off or minimize ambient light, and shoot test farm at same exposure:
