Website Wednesday: Grammarly

I have said it before, and I will say it again: it is imperative for good photographers to also be good writers.  Let's face it, the majority of your communication with your clients, colleges, professors and classmates is via the written word: e-mail, blogging, assignments, information on websites, etc.  If you want to run a successful professional business, you must present yourself as a professional person; this includes writing skills.  That being said; we all make mistakes from time to time, and it's best to double check our work prior to sending or submitting.  If you find that you struggle with grammar, you may want to check out the online app called "Grammarly".

Similar to Spell Check in Microsoft Word, Grammarly finds mistakes related to grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.  Amazingly enough, this app also detects plagiarism and suggest when you should cite something.  Grammarly can cover many different writing styles: General, Academic, Business, Technical, Medical, Creative and Casual.

As seen in the example below, the user can copy and paste his/her writings into the app and the correction suggestions are seen on the right.  One is also able to extend the correction in order to see why it was grammatically incorrect.

This writing tool has been featured in many publications such as: U.S. News, Forbes, Wall Street Journal, TIME, and Fortune.  Naturally, for something so fantastic, there is a fee.  Currently, there is a special offer for 20% off all plans.  You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly or annually: $29.95/month, $19.96/month or $11.66/month.  Before you decide on if you want to purchase a subscription to Grammarly, you can try it out for free for a week!
