This fantastic app has been around since November of 2012. Known for it's extensive editing capabilities, Afterlight helps photographers on the go adjust their images right from their smart phones (although, not yet available for Androids).
Similar to other editing apps, Afterlight does have "pre-made" filters for photographers to use that can add certain effects to their images. In true "hipster" fashion, these filters are referred to as "Dreamy", which shows a soft and warmly lit image, or "Sailor", which portrays more of an HDR quality. I personally try to avoid slapping a filter on an image but... in some cases, it's just plain ole fun to do so. My favorite filter to use is called "Moon" due to the cool color temperature it provides.
However, Afterlight takes editing a step further and allows the photographer to adjust his/her photos manually. Along with being able to crop an image in multiple different aspect ratios, a photographer can choose to adjust his/her Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Exposure, Highlights, Shadows, Fade, the Tone of Highlights, Mid Tones and Shadows, Color Temperature, add a Vignette, Grain and Sharpening. These manual functions are similar to what one might find in Adobe Photoshop Raw, which is fantastic! Another great aspect about Afterlight can be found in the "Settings" section. You can choose to start the app in camera mode, save high resolution files to your photo album and boost low light situations - along with a few other neat things.
If you have not yet downloaded this app, I would strongly recommend it for those times when you are editing "on the go". That being said, please note - this app is not being recommended to replace the wonders of Adobe Photoshop CS6 or other - it's still a key factor for students to learn how to use that program as well as Adobe Lightroom.
