Make it Monday: Time Killers

Have you ever noticed how quickly the day can go by?  Then realized how much you did not get done within those twenty-four hours?  Being a student at an online school requires a lot of self-motivation and time management skills.  We are all susceptible to some type of "time killing" activity although it's important to realize what exactly causes us to "waste time".   

 

Recently published on "The Self Employed" website (a fantastic resource for all), was an article regarding the top ten time killers of all time. The stats for this particular pole were based off of "OfficeTime.net"; below are the results: 
  • E-mails: 33% of "Office Time" users spend 1-2 hours a day responding to e-mails, while 22% spend more than 2 hours a day checking their e-mails.
  • Internet Surfing: 27% of folks spend between 1 and 2 hours per day browsing the Net; 8 in 10 people spend more than 2 hours per day.
  • Watching TV: 26% spend between 1 and 2 hours per day watching television; 16% watch more than 2 hours a day of TV. 
  • Procrastination: 19% spend 1-2 hours per day putting things off; 1 in 10 people do not procrastinate - they're super productive.
  • Meetings: 18% spend between 1-2 hours a day in meetings; 7 in 10 people spend up to 2 hours per day in meetings.
  • Non-business Related Conversations: 16% spend 1-2 hours per day in non-business related convos; 3% don't spend any time involves in idle "water cooler" conversations; 9 in 10 spend up to 2 hours a day "chatting".
  • Travel / Commute Time: 13% spend 1-2 hours a day traveling; 31% say they spend no time at all traveling (they work from home). 
  • Social Networking: 11% spend 1-2 hours per day on social network sites; 75% spend up to 2 hours per day on Twitter, Facebook or other social sites. 
  • Cell Phone / Texting: 10% spend 1-2 hours a day on their cells; 1 in 10 spend 2 hours a day on their phone.
  • Red Tape: 8% spend 1-2 hours a day fighting "red tape"; 25% don't spend any time at all.
