Make it Monday: Watermark Images

Welcome to Make it Monday!

At some point, you will want to add your freelance business' logo or printed name to your images as a watermark.  There are many different schools of thought on watermarking image.  Some will argue that a watermark is distracting and others will argue that a watermark is necessary for copyright purposes.  Interested to learn more about the "Pros and Cons" of watermarking your images?   Click here to read an article from B&H on the matter.  The key thing to remember is this: there is a time and a place for watermarks.

Personally, I like to watermark the images that I place onto my social media sites, like the image seen above.  In a setting such as a social media website, images are tagged, shared, downloaded and passed around so often that, in my opinion, it's a good idea to add a watermark.  However, I do not watermark the images that I put on my personal website.  I look at my personal site as a more professional page and when future clients come to take a peak, I don't want their eye to become distracted by my logo.  I want them to only view the photographs.

Let's say that you have your logo and you want to watermark multiple images.  In Joseph Brewster's video tutorial, he teaches how to do exactly that:
